Winch Sponsored by Safari Centre

01 April 2017 - Brendon Lowe
One of the modules of the LROC driver training program is the Recovery Training session in which we deal with many different aspects of the recovery of stranded vehicles. If you have attended one of these courses you will know that we spend most of the morning covering the various types of equipment available to use in planning a successful recovery.

Part of this training is also focused on recovery using a winch as winches are generally found on many vehicles, so there also needs to be a practical element of winching incorporated into the training which is normally conducted in the afternoon wherein all participants have a chance to co-ordinate the actual recovery process.

Up until our last session in March 2017, we have been making use of some of the committee members’ winches which are used during the practical exercise and as such the availability of a winch is always dependent on a sub-committee member or other club member who has a winch to be present. However, all that changed about 3 weeks ago when our newly elected PRO Johan Kriek contacted me one afternoon and said he has managed to secure a sponsorship for a TJM9000 winch specifically for training purposes - this has been our biggest sponsorship ever!

The sponsorship has been made possible by Safari Centre in Centurion and we are very grateful to the store manager Rick Simons who arranged the sponsorship and even the fitment to the vehicle. The total sponsorship, including the winch, synthetic rope and fitment to the vehicle is valued at R15,475.

On behalf of the LROC committee, we thank Safari Centre Centurion for their tremendous support to our clubs training program, we trust that our members will support them in return when shopping around for 4x4 accessories for their vehicles. They are located on the corner of South Street and Kersieboom Crescent near the Centurion Mall.

And special thanks to Johan Kriek for arranging everything in his first month as committee member.
