Only the glory of Africa’s wildlife remains constant. Despite the threat of poaching and water shortages, pressing community needs, and fluctuating tourist demand, the commitment and support of the gracious Tembe people and the Honorary Officers remained steadfast. We are thankful for Len who has, after many years acting as Conservation Manager, finally appointed permanently in this position. Len holds a special place with the LROC’kers as he has always been supportive, grateful and a true ambassador for the Tembe Elephant Park.

The fundraiser included the Stocks-family joining the rest of the gang which stayed on from the workweek. The fun and spirit continued during the fundraiser with evening “kuiers” around the fire. [continuously organized by our pyromaniac ;-)]

Everybody took some time to relax, take some drives out to through the park and picnics and the picnic spots. We took a drive with Stonefield & Co. and the Prozesky’s to Kosi Bay for lunch at Kosi Bay Lodge, and some sightseeing at the bay itself.

Some of us went to the lodge for some milkshakes (they do make the yummiest milkshakes) and G&T’s. Eventually ended up almost everybody from camp having some drinks and a swim at the lodge.

At camp the HO’s got busy for the traditional potjie on Saturday evening which was simply delish! We were also joined by ex-Tembe HO’s Guelinda and Andreas from Austria.

This year has shown again how people can get together and in short time become friends and share a well-deserved relaxing week with Tembe people, the HO’s and fellow LROC’kers.

It has truly been an awesome week, awesome sightings and awesome friendships.
