As the clock struck 10am, a steady stream of Land Rovers descended upon the airfield, setting the stage for a day filled with unforgettable experiences. Our wonderful hosts, Marinda and Johan, who oversee the Club House at Eagles Creek Airfield, welcomed us with open arms. Against the backdrop of light aircraft taking off and landing just meters away, they served us coffee and beverages, setting the tone for a day of thrills and camaraderie.
Johan and his crew wasted no time, igniting the braai fires, infusing the air with the rich aroma of mopani wood, evoking memories of the bushveld. The airfield’s resident pilots, who maintain hangars there, graciously took us on a tour, unveiling the diverse array of aircraft stored on-site. It was an opportunity like no other, as we were invited to sit in the cockpits of some of these remarkable planes, creating fantastic photo opportunities that captured the essence of our gathering.
As we explored the aircraft and the airfield, the Editor of African Pilot Magazine joined us, conducting interviews and capturing incredible photos. The centerpiece was an awe-inspiring shot of our Landies surrounding one of the larger aircraft, with all attendees adding to the sense of community and adventure.
Returning to the patio, we were treated to a sumptuous meal that celebrated South African flavors – thick pork rashers, chicken sosaties, boerewors, salad, onion rings, pap and sous, and garlic bread. The grand finale was a delightful homemade milk tart paired with strong coffee, a perfect ending to a unique Landys and Lattes experience.
What truly set this Landys and Lattes apart was the fusion of aviation and Land Rover enthusiasm. Conversations flowed effortlessly, and camaraderie filled the air throughout the afternoon. It was a day when the Land Rover community came together to share stories, forge new friendships, and celebrate our mutual love for these iconic vehicles.
Our hosts, Marinda and Johan, deserve special mention for going above and beyond to ensure that our day was nothing short of spectacular. Their professionalism and meticulous planning made every moment unforgettable.
In conclusion, Landys and Lattes at Eagles Creek Airfield was a day of adventure, camaraderie, and aviation that left a lasting impression on all who attended. As we look ahead to future events, we can’t help but feel grateful for the vibrant Land Rover community that makes every gathering a truly special experience. Until next time, may your Landies keep roaring, and may your adventures be as exciting as our Landys and Lattes.
