Landys and Lattes - with a different flavour!

20 May 2023 - Rod Petersen
It was a beautiful, crisp winter’s morning like only the Highveld can dish up, when twenty-five LROC members and families got together at the Groenkloof Nature Reserve in Pretoria, to listen to a talk about coffee. Our guest speaker was Bornman du Toit, who shared his vast knowledge of all things coffee.

We have enriched our knowledge and now know the differences in taste between coffee from different parts of the world. Yep, we are now connoisseurs and can discern between the more floral, or fruity, or sweet coffee. We know about textured milk and how a flat white differs from a cappuccino!

We then got on to the main focus of the day: can one make a good tasting coffee when we are out camping or overlanding? And the answer is yes! Whether you use a Bialetti (Moka pot), French Press or an Aeropress Go (the crowd favourite), you can brew a good coffee in the outdoors. You can even have freshly ground coffee, if you have a hand-held, manual grinder. And with a portable milk frother, you can have a flat white in the bush.
