Garmin Basecamp Training

22 August 2019 - Jakob Jordaan
Our Technical day on Garmin Basecamp training at Base 4 attracted quite a number of participants, 19 in total. All geared up with Laptops, all sorts of GPS’s, chargers, lead cables, multi plugs, overhead projector and a screen we started off the day going big on this one.

We opened the discussion by covering Navigation terminology, different GPS applications, the best settings for the GPS devices, the various maps for GPS’s and the best Garmin GPS’s for off-the-beaten track navigation.

Then our Vice Chairman, Brendon Lowe, gave detail insight and use of the Microsoft version of Garmin’s BASECAMP software. Part of that was an exercise where the participants could manipulate a tracklog on their own computers, play around creating routes and learning how to import, export and email routes and tracks to friends. After all of that we enjoyed a braai and everything else that goes with that.

A big thanks to Brendon for helping out on the day. Without his assistance and insight, the day would just not have been possible.
