Held at the enchanting Hennops 4x4, a mystical trail not far from Base 4, our members gathered bright and early on a Sunday morning. Tyres were soon deflated as both vehicles readied themselves for the adventure that awaited. After settling entry fees with the venue, our two Land Rovers set out to conquer the majestic obstacles that define the Hennops mountainous trail.
The journey began with the notorious crass axle hill, immediately after entering the trail. This marked the commencement of a day filled with awe-inspiring obstacles, as both vehicles were put through their paces. One of the advantages of a small convoy is the opportunity to experience each obstacle thoroughly. There was ample time to evaluate the technicality of each challenge and determine the best approach. This approach encouraged active participation from everyone, making each obstacle an engaging experience.
As we progressed along the trail, we meticulously assessed and navigated through each obstacle. While it’s common to witness Land Rovers conquering such challenges, it was truly impressive to see how quickly Steve and Jennifer applied their newfound knowledge, successfully maneuvering through the trails.
Driven by a desire to conquer the entire trail, we pushed our limits, including the more extreme sections. This occasionally led to unraveling the winch cable to ensure a controlled drive through challenging obstacles.
The trail provided an abundance of obstacles for both vehicles to tackle, with passengers frequently stepping out to capture moments as the other vehicle conquered a challenge. This resulted in breathtaking photos of Land Rovers in their element, effortlessly taking on obstacles, and delivering thrills and excitement for both drivers and passengers.
As the day advanced, we found ourselves at the Hennops communal braai area and lapa, ready to kindle a fire and enjoy a delicious braai. After the exhilaration of the obstacles, the serenity was welcomed, and participants engaged in discussions revolving around all things Land Rover, sharing the magic of the morning.
With satisfied appetites, it was time to tackle the remaining obstacles that Hennops had to offer, including the daunting Hill 47, a challenging climb regardless of your level of driving skill. After assessing the hill, each driver chose their path to conquer the climb, and soon, cheers of victory echoed as both vehicles reached the summit.
For those familiar with Hennops, following Hill 47, one last demanding obstacle stands on the direct route to the gate. With both vehicles triumphantly conquering this challenge, it was time to head to the gate, marking the end of a day filled with adventure and camaraderie.
In closing, the Driver Training Trail Drive at Hennops was a testament to the spirit of exploration and unity that defines the Land Rover Owners Club of Southern Africa. It’s moments like these that remind us of the thrill and joy of off-roading, and we eagerly anticipate more adventures that await us in the future. Until then, may your Land Rovers continue to conquer new horizons, and may the trails ahead always be filled with excitement!
