As the vehicles started arriving at 8am we realised we would be in for a bumper day and in the end we had 20 vehicles in attendance and about 36 adults and 10 children, of which most were new members, some ready to test their vehicles off road for the very first time. After the driver debriefing, coffee kindly supplied by De Wildt and indemnities signed we set off in convoy through the game park.
We had great sightings of Eland, Zebra, Kudu, Giraffe and a lone Black-backed Jackal but the emphasis of the trail was for members to get to know their vehicles better while making new friends along the way. A small incident with a bent track rod on Gert’s se Klip had members rallying around to get the Defender mobile again but with some ingenues solutions we hit the track again quickly, all part of the fun.
We arrived back in time to enjoy a braai and a chat while the children took to the swimming pool. Overall it was a fantastic day out with the club. Thank you to the all the members that attended, it was great meeting all of you and thank you to Alex van de Horst for helping out too.
